    making a system image

i know how to make a system image and all that, but i have a question about what's stored. when you make a system image, does it only back up the essential framework of the OS so when you use it, it's like a fresh install? does it do that and backup programs too? or does is back up your entire hard drive with all your files (music, videos, etc)? i went into the backup section of the control panel and it said it would backup the system reserved partition and C:\ (System), so i'm not sure what to make of that.

Partition images should contain everything in that partition--programs, data, settings, licenses, registry entries, devices and drivers.

The Windows "system image" utility makes a 100% backup of absolutely everything on your hard drive.
