Windows won't boot after resize Windows partition

    Hello everyone,

My operating system hangs on logo screen after i resized my Windows partition.

I constantly was in the red with the amount of space on my os partition on my ssd.
So i then used Minitool Partition Wizard to add 5 more GB from second partition to my first partition on which the os is installed. The process stopped at 50 % because the partition was in use by my os and then it gave me 3 options. Restart and it should continue after restart it said in description, close programs or cancel. I choose the first option but now the operating system won't boot anymore. It hangs on the logo screen. I have tried Windows repair but it can't find the ssd.

How can i solve this problem without losing my data?

My operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and my SSD is OCZ Vertex 4 256 GB

    Hey SWRT,

    Please follow these steps:

    1. Boot from Windows 7 CD
    2. Select 'Repair My Computer'
    3. Press 'Start-Up Repair'
    4. Let it run, when it completes Restart the PC
    5. Boot back into the Windows 7 CD
    6. Select 'Repair My Computer'
    7. Press 'Command Line'
    8. Enter the following commands, after each you must press ENTER:

    • bootrec.exe /FixMBR
    • bootrec.exe /FixBoot
    • bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd

After these commands have run, close the command line and restart the computer.

    Let me know what happens.

    Thanks,

This is not a good scenario. Partition Wizard moves the files around on the disk when you extend a partition and if it gets disrupted in the middle of the operation, you get an instable state. You obviously did not make an image of the SSD before that operation. I always recommend to make an image first because I learned my lesson the hard way in a similar situation like yours.

I suggest you save your data with a live Linux disc or with this little tool that I made myself. Then you can reinstall the system.

When following the steps mentioned above i wasn't paying attention after restarting and then partition wizard suddenly continued and completed the process. Now everything is working fine. I don't understand why partition wizard didn't continue after the first restart but instead it made my os fail on booting. I have done a sfc scan just to be sure and it seems my os isn't damaged.

Has the issue been resolved then?

If so, please use the Mark this thread as solved link at the top of your thread.

Thanks & Have a great day,
