Re: Windows 7 System Recovery Loop Error

Greetings: 1st, not sure if I have posted in the right section, moderator please feel free to move.

My computer froze during an update, upon restarting the computer I now I have a endless loop error. :***

A black screen appears with the following message.
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
    To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
    2. Choose your language settings and click next.
    3. Click "repair your computer"
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
    File: \Windows\system32\config\system\
    Status: 0xc000014c
Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt."

The computer is a gateway zx6971-ub10p, No windows installation disc was included,
(I had previously made one but am unable to find it, also don't have the box/packaging anymore). I do not care about recovery anything on the computer, I just need to get the computer working again for school.
Windows Memory Diagnostic found no problems, Various Safe Modes, Last Known Good Configuration, Start Windows Normally,etc... do nothing.
Was going to try Microsoft Software Recovery but I don't even know my 25 character product key, no warranty from Gateway now, and no $ to take this thing somewhere.

    Is this computer toast?!?

You can borrow my boot media , see if you can replace the hives from \windows\system32\config\regback.

    Copy them to \windows\system32\config

Here I am, tried calling Gateway, what a joke, unless you are under warranty you are unable to talk to anyone, and are transferred to a third party site. The third party site says I would have to contact gateway, when I call gateway back again it automatically transfers me back the third party site.

So When using the Microsoft recovery tool to make the recovery usb, I uploaded the iso you linked but it says it was unable to copy files to the usb(tried a couple different usbs). Please check your usb device and the selected ISO file and try again.

I did find this windows 7 ISO, which doesn't require a product key to download(like downloading from the microsoft site).

It is a trial version though,

should I give this a whirl, if I used this ISO, I would no longer be able to see the windows 7 product key for the factory installed version of windows 7 once it is up and running?

btw, thanks for such a timely response SIW2, posted on a couple forums a few years back. Took several days before getting a response.

I can try downloading that iso you linked again from a different computer.
