Backup & Restore thought my data disk held Windows as well as my C
A few days ago I noticed that my daily Windows' Backup and Restore had stopped. I did a manual backup and chose my data disc as the destination as it always has been, Letter X, a 1 TB internal HD, (my C: is an SSD). It refused to save it there, stating that a backup cannot be saved to a disc holding the OS. It also removed "and a system image" from the contents of the proposed backup. It then insisted on listing both C: and X: for the source of the backup. When choosing my other discs I was told that there was not enough room (although there was ample). So no Backup. Clearly, something was on my X: kidding Windows that the OS was also housed there.
For some reason, my Macrium folder on my X: held only 3 files and I was unable to delete or uninstall them. I reverted to a Restore point the day before the trouble started and the Macrium folder was complete and I uninstalled it. Problem gone. A friend said he had the same problem in the past with the same solution (but a different program from Macrium).
Very peculiar. What could have tricked Windows to think the OS was also on the X: drive?
