Windows rescue disk

I have a few different back up and restore software exe's on multi pc's and they all recommend making a rescue disk in case of problems reinstalling etc.I wish to know if the rescue disks are all the same or do I need to make a rescue disk to match the different programs. I would hate to need a disk and find out the rescue disk I have is not compatible with the back up software I am trying to restore with.

Win 7 Rescue Disk
I was wanting to make an iso file of the Win 7 Rescue disk. Win 7 only writes one to a CD it does not create an iso file for you. I tried Image Burn but all it makes is a bin file. I found iso files on the web but am wondering if they are legit as well as usable. In addition I am wondering if a...
