    How do I remove old XP Recovery Console.

    Hi, Let me first thank you for allowing me to join this forum. I have searched the web for three days for an answer to this small but annoying problem and have got nowhere. I have been installing OS's on my home built computers for over ten years now but this has stumped me. After I clean(custom) installed Win 7 Ultimate on my wife's XP Pro computer I find at boot up that the old XP Recovery Console entry is still on the boot(Win 7) menu. I have tried several partition and boot menu tools but none show the entry to give the option to delete it. I have uploaded a pic to show the folder in Partition Master but is nowhere else to be found. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

    Can you open up a Command Prompt Window (cmd.exe, run it as an administrator) and type in bcdedit and press enter

    Copy the output and post it here

    Zidane24...Mate, thanks but no thanks, have sent the output from bcdedit to 5 Win 7 forums in the last two day's and have not been given a fix that I already have not tried and I'm fed up with it, so, I'll close this thread and just format the hard drive as I should have done in the first place and do a fresh install. Again thanks and Cheers:)

    Alrighty then...I am surprised no one gave you a easy fix for it...

    Remember that this is the number one Windows Website for Windows 7 so if it can't be found here...it is hard pressed you would find it elsewhere

    I think I have an easy fix...

    Open "My Computer" and click on the "Organize" tab, select "Folder and search options". When the "Folder option" window pops up click on the "View" tab, and make sure to

    CHECK
    "Show hidden files, folders etc...)"

    AND

    UNCHECK "Hide protected operating system files" AND "Hide extensions for known file types".

    Next, go into you C: drive, and find the file boot.ini and... well, I made a folder called "Moved boot ini here" and jammed it in it... I rebooted, and yay, multi-boot option gone!

    You can also mess with the permissions (so you can save it after editing) and put a ; (semi colon) in front of EACH line. Adding the ; makes that specific command line not work...

    ;
    ;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
    ;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
    ;
    ;[boot loader]
    ;timeout=30
    ;default=c:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT
    ;[operating systems]
    ;c:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /CMDCONS

    Hope this helps someone

    LOL . Since that was back in November - I expect he has reinstalled by now.

    He needn't have, it is easy to sort out.

    I agree. A simple search would have told this person the folder and one or two files in the root directory to delete as well as editing/removing the boot.ini entry.
