Recovery Disc Creation vs Recovery Partition

    Hi there,

I am having a hard time finding the straight answer I am looking for. Could someone help me please?

My question concerns the HP brand computer...

When you create recovery discs, are they created from the recovery partition that is there to restore to factory settings or some other hidden partition?

Typically from the recovery partition, but a better way to create a superior form of recovery disc is to use Macrium to image the existing system installation.

If that's of interest, search our tutorials section for "Macrium". Once you have used it, you won't look back.

Hi Golden. Thank you for your reply. I thought so, just wanted to confirm my thoughts.

    Another question if I may....

Any idea how to fix bootmgr is missing when F11 at restart results in boogtmgr is missing? The Recovery Manager from the Start menu produces the same results. My conclusion is that the recovery partition is corrupt. No recovery discs.... There's no place to download a W7 .iso from anywhere any more, is there?

If you have access to a bootable Macrium WinPe, there is an option from the File menu to restore the boot Mgr. If not, download this one I built a while back, write it to a bootable USB. Boot from it, and locate the Fix Boot Problems option (see image below) and run that. You should be able to boot as normal afterward.

Windows 7 : Occasionally an official ISO download link appears here courtesy of SGT Oddball - they are shortlived so the best I can suggest is to subscribe to this thread so you will be notified when a new link is posted:

Windows 7 Home Premium OEM install on new HD on Vista Laptop

If you are lucky, he might stumble across this thread, so it would help if he knew what version of Windows you were using e.g. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit etc.

    Hi Golden,

    Sorry for the delay..

I have subscribed to that thread. Unfortunately the guy wants to restore to factory asap. He has promised the laptop to a new owner but he can't get it restored to factory. I had suggested upgrading to W10, but unfortunately the new owner wants W7...

Thank you for the Macrium WinPe link above. I'll certainly share this link.

Most OEM's are Home Premium, aren't they? 32-bit. I'll check to make sure. Thank you, SGT Oddball.
