Should I do a hard shut down? Then what?
Should I do a hard shut down? Then what?
Hi Bmart,
if its installing updates or a repair install id say NO, causes major problems, otherwise Yes.

Thanks for your reply. I'm trying to restore to a date that is before my daughter mistakenly reloaded the original Windows 7 program.
I guess I have no choice?
If it reboots OK, should I do try again or do a system recovery?
Hi Bmart,
How did she reload ??, use the Fx key or discs.
Roy
Roy,
It reloaded fine. Should I try another restore but to an earlier date?
Thanks!
Hi Bmart,
Before you do anything else from an elevated command mode
run sfc /scannow, (note the space)
You could try an earlier one, if it reported as Successfully restored, no point.
If you do have eaarlier restore points then i DONT think she has reload windows, it would have wiped them off.
Roy
Roy,
No restore date earlier than when she reloaded Windows 7 program. Now what do I do to get my files restored
Thanks
Sounds like when she reloaded Windows it wiped your Restore Points. It can also be caused if the maximum storage size limit is set too low for your shadow storage.
To my knowledge if they are gone, they are gone (Restore Points that is). My only real recommendation is to look into checking your storage size limit, and/or grabbing a different backup/restore utility. Either a disk imager like Acronis True Image or a snapshot tool like Rollback rx.

Thanks for your help. I've locked the Windows 7 disk in my safe, and will stay with the reload. Fortunately I didn't have much data that I couldn't grab from other devices.
