restoring ( recovering ) HDD image to ssd with true image

Booted from true image and made an image of my 250GB HDD....removed HDD and fitted new ssd...booted from true image again to restore the image to the SSD.
seemed to go ok initially, recognised the SSD....but in the final stages where I had to chose the partition to recover to ( assume this means restore ) it only displayed the portable HDD with the image on, not the SSD....
not sure if I am doing something wrong..
I am now installing Windows 10 clean install to the SSD, in the hope it will ' prep' it and then try again.

any thoughts please

At that point there should have been an option with Acronis to format and partition the SSD, as it appears there was no partition on it.

AFAIK you should not have to "prep" the SSD in any way, as so long as it is recognized by your PC's BIOS Acronis will take over the formatting of it when you Restore from your HDD image backup.

having other issues with acronis, created recovery image, chose man in boot partition plus system reserved partition ( is that correct ?) but when tried to recover it to another HDD, I fist chose the main HDD to recover, but then it insisted on marking the rest do partition for recovery, which was not there or couldn't be selected.....
think I need to use a different HDD cloning app, true image is not as good as I thought, bit confusing

Sorry, your post is confusing to me.

But if you are asking "do I recover the entire original HDD including system reserved etc." then Yes. You Back Up the entire disk and when you want to Recover that backed-up image, you do so instead to your SSD. I always do this "manually" i.e. I like to adjust the C:/NTFS partition to the new drive, but I think Acronis' wizard will adjust it for you as well.

I use ATI Home 2014 and page 114 of the User Guide has the instructions "Recovering a disk backup to a different disk under rescue media". You may have a diff version but search on this quoted and you should find similar instructions.

thanks....Yes I want to,image my entire HDD, and I chose the boot and system partitions....not a problem, but acronis 2015 insist on me identifying both partitions for the recovery, but the new HDD doesn't have a system partition , won't let me proceed without this, trying 2016 version now, and it didn't ask the second step, so maybe improved....thanks

Thanks for the link, I download ma rim free, but the boot disk it wanted to create ; or so I thought, was som form of recovery disk for non booting Windows....not imaging....but I will follow the tutorial and give it a try.

FYI True image 2016 looks better, it allows backup of boot and system partitions, but doesn't ask for target partitions, just gets on with it....and worked perfectly.....also has a clone HDD option, but both HDD's must be fitted, can't put the clone image on a portable HDD as with backup....
