backup location

Hi, i have just recently joined the forum and have found some great information and very helpful members who have helped me with a couple of issues already.
I have just started windows 7 back up to my external hard drive but its only path was to the external hard drive only and not to a folder in the hard drive. Is this just the way its set up/configured or can you in fact use a destination folder on the external hard drive? Hope this makes sense.

Many Thanks

Andy

Andy Hi and welcome

Is it important for it to be in the folder or just for organization?

windows 7 backup destination folder?

Has anyone solved this? I tried to point to a specific folder for backup destination using both Windows backup and restore and the Lenovo ThinkVantage toolbox but no go. Windows backed up to the root of my external drive, and there doesn't seem to be any way to change that.

Worked for me!

Problem:

Windows 7 Backup - Cannot specify default save location other than a drive's root on a local drive?

How do I change the default backup folder in Win7?

Solution:

-Create some folder where you want to place you backup
-Share this folder to yourself
-Select option to backup on network and give you shared folder as location,
but not as local path as D:\FolderForBackup,
you must use you network path as //MyComputerName/FolderForBackup

Ok, this is the first time I've tried to use Win7's Backup/Restore functionality. I normally use NovaBackup (to DAT tape) for my backup/restore functionality, but for convenience and speed during a hard drive swap I did today I decided to do a Win7 backup to disk (actually, to a network drive...

Backup location selection duplicated
Hi, For some reason all the locations are duplicated when selecting what to backup. This has occurred just after a clean install of windows 7, and the only thing I can think that would have cause it is moving my files (app data, music, documents, etc) to a different parition. Any ideas on what...

Location to set up BackUp and Restore
Hi, I set up Backup and Restore in the Wrong place, I believe. I set it up on my G Drive which is called HP Tools. The drive capacity is 3.95G. I began getting messages that there was no more room on the G Drive. It had only saved to the drive once. So I went out and purchased a 8G flash...

Which is your primary backup location?
A few months ago I wondered whether the home NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices might become more popular than the standard USB devices, but it seems that the NAS is still too pricey to be able to compete with the cheaper USB drives..... Lets put it to a poll. To which media do you backup...
