    Deleting the Recovery partition

    Hello Friends,

1.Can I delete my recovery partition after creating recovery discs.
2.Or Is there any advantage of keeping that partition than recovery discs.

If you have a Dell and you are talking about Drive D, you can delete it if you have the discs that were included with the initial purchase. The discs/partion restores the computer like the day it was purchased. I do not think that you will need it.

Yes, you can save about 10GB but you have a 320GB HD. I would keep the recovery partition.

You can delete the recovery partition if you have created recovery disks, however, before doing so, you should verify the disks to make sure they burned without any errors and are good copies.

Also you should consider establishing a good backup routine, if you have not already done so, because the recovery disks just enable you to recover your machine back to the way it was when you first got it, before you installed all your programs and data and, if disaster should strike and you were unable to boot into Windows, you should have a way to recover your system image, with all your programs, settings, and data, and not merely the factory image.

First, let me welcome you to the Seven Forums.

HP Recovery Partition can safely be deleted after creating a Recovery Disc Set. Depending on your HP model, you should be able to download a Recovery Partition Remover from HP's driver website for your computer. This tool deletes the recovery partition and adds the freed HD space (about 10GB) to your C: hard drive.

Just got my new Dell and had no idea that these folks would use a primary partition for their recovery program that I really don't want. Add the OEM partition and the OS partition and my allowed 3 primary partitions are all used. With a 1TB drive, I really need that primary partition for my own use.

I want to uninstall Dell Data Safe and get back that Primary partition [not the disk space] back. When you say that that the Recovery Partition can safely be removed I expect it would be wise to uninstall the Dell Data Safe program first? Dell does provide their own uninstall program for uninstalling Data Safe Online Backup and Dell Support Center.

Since this Partition is only used for recovery, I'm assuming that deleting this volume will not mess with my OS in any fashion? I know a little bit but am not knowledgeable enough to know if there are any relationships between whats in the Recovery Partition and whats in the OS Partition that deleting this Recovery Partition will mess up.

I am using a drive imaging program for recovery that includes a WinPE 2.1 boot disk, so getting rid of Data Safe and the Recovery Partition is not going to put me in danger.

    Thanks for your advice,

    Bob
