    System Restore failing

My doughter came to me today and said her PC wasn't working anymore. So I made a W7 Repair Disk (USB) as she has no optical drive. That was a struggle but was able to do so anyway.

But theoptions to restore are not working

System Recovery shows me there is a problem with bootmgr. It says the following startup options will be added. Name: Windows 10 Pro (recovered)...

Does this mean she was somehow fooled into upgrading to W10? I know she has stated she does not want W10, so I dont think she was trying to do so.

So system recovery fails with "Failed to save startup options.

Trying to recover with an image gives me "An internal error occurred. The following information might help you resolve the error. The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)

System Restore says "To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart your operating system, and then select system restore. (But I cannot as it crashes with a bootmgr failure)

I have system inage files from backup and restore from the last time I did a fresh install. I wanted to avoid the 24 hour task of installing drivers and all of the fixes.

Is there a utility I can run from a USB to restore a Windows Image Backup?

through the W7 repair disk, I have a C: prompt. Any idea what the path would be so I can navigate there to see?.. If that is the case, does the windows.old folder allow me to undo what was done?

Thanks all for the help. It turns out she did perform the W10 upgrade but it failed about a month later. The problem is now resolved. I copied all of her files to my NAS then did a fresh install.
