Can I restore with ghost after format?

    Can I restore with ghost after format?


    OS is Win 7 64bit

    I have bad sectors than cannot be repaired on c drive. As a last resort I believe a format will fix it.
    I have a ghost backup (Had to check Ignore Bad Sectors) of c drive.
    I am confident I can restore with this as have done so before.

    My question is this.
    If I format c will i be able to restore the backup with ghost as I normally have done?
    I just insert the startup Ghost recovery disc and find the backup on my other drive and away I go.

    I would really like to fix the bad sectors as I am afraid the pc may crash...
    Or am I being overly diligent as I have no issues with the pc I know of.

    Maybe I can just leave it as is and if it does crash I have a backup of the OS and program files etc in ghost anyway..so maybe try the reformat thing then when I have nothing to lose and really no choice?

    Advice appreciated.

    You can not fix bad sectors, they are damaged areas of the hard drive and windows won`t write info there.

    Buy a new drive or better yet get a ssd

    To me this is a easy call.

    You already know your hard drive is going down hill. That is good. It gives you time to backup data as much as you can and get rid of the hard drive.

    Get a SSD and do a Clean Install with updates.
    Install your programs.
    Using Macrium Reflect make a image, backup or Clone. Your choice.

    If you are referring to Norton Ghost; I haven't use it i many years. So I really don't know if is is a good program to use.

    As a hard drive starts to fail it remaps bad sectors to engineering sectors of the disk which you don't see once that's full you start to see them as it can't remap so once you see them your disk has a lot of bad sectors and could die at any point

    (Note: I am not sure of this.)

    It is better to do FULL Format instead of Quick format option.
    By doing full format may able to mark a particular sector as BAD.

    But if the partition is do have bad sectors, clone the partition may also be affect as it may include the BAD sector.
    Since most clone software are read and write by sector, hence may include the bad sectors.

    Ghost backup, original is PowerQuest, which i did get a licence version, use it regarding and it was reliable.
    It must install to Windows OS first. Run and do the partition.
    But it will save to the root of C: drive and write a .bat file to run the process first.
    But for Ghost, i am not familiar, when some company took over PowerQuest.
    This is that i know how PowerQuest work.

    It is better to get a new HDD.
    Also do defrag regularly, as this may able to detect if there is a bad sector.

    My life has changed.

    I didn't think pc's could get much quicker. this is isane

    SSD's are habit forming.

    I'm going to get some more Intel 730 when I can find some at a good price.

    i paid 200 aud for 500gig.
    I do mobile dj and have 2 old laptops.Do ssd's fit old laptops?
    I'm tempted to upgrade them.
    I'm gobsmacked at the speed.
    Bugger ram and cpu upgrades lol
