If i have my main storage drive connected....D drive...the one thats bad.....windows won't see the NEW WD drive....I unplugged the D drive....windows saw the new drive...and I assigned it F.....I shutdown...plugged it all back up....and now when windows starts....it only shows C, and F and my DVD drive.....no D.....

I can't for the life of me get windows to show BOTH WD drives.....bios shows it...but windows won't..what do I do

    OK thank ****ing god

I got D back up and running...

    ok guys

it looks the WD drive is just very picky when it comes to the SATA cable I'm using. Not the port but the cable itself...I only have 2 of the cables that seem to work with both my hard drives. The other type I have doesn't seem to work with it so I can't have both drives running and recognized at the same time. However, that cable works fine with my 2.5" 500GB from my PS4 that I put in when I upgraded it as well as my DVD burner. It just doesn't work with the WD drives.

it looks like I'm going to have to go pick up some cables before I can do anything or I'll just go buy a external drive....xfer it to the drive...swap the drives....xfer it to the new drive, and then return the external because I really don't have the money right now for an external.

I guess the best route would be go go pick up some cables.

At least I feel better right now.

Not sure how a cable can confuse windows so much but it did.

    I have a MSI MOBO.

These are the kind of cables that came with it....came with 2

    Access Denied

those are the ones that WORK with the WD drives. I just don't want to wait from HK. I need to find a solution tomorrow. Too bad I don't have a tiger direct store here.

Any local computer store or repair shop should have handfuls of Sata cables.

We don't really have many local mom and pop computer repair shops. I think I know of one but they're probably not opened today.

It's alright though because a friend let me borrow his 1TB passport. I'm just going to copy it over to that, swap the drives, and copy it to the new one.

Now the last question. What's the best free software to make a complete backup without having to drag n drop as once the new drive is in with everything transferred back. I want to do a backup. Does reflect have that option? All I saw last time i looked at it was clone or image.

Macrium Reflect makes complete Images or complete Clones.

Cool, WD has their own backup software, and the installation files came right on the passport. I'm currently copying stuff over to the external hard drive. I already did all my documents, and now I'm doing my music. Then, it will be all my videos / movies, and then everything in the Program Files (x86) folder, and then going to swap out the drives. :)

It only took 3 minutes to do 13gb of music. Not bad :)
