    Question about backup image size

Is it feasible to backup / create an image of my C drive when it's 175gigs? I just don't want to go through all the hassle if for some reason it won't work.

    Any help would rock!!

    Thx!

Hi jhwest69, welcome to the Forum.

Yes it is quite feasible to create an image of your 175gb C drive. In fact a back up image is essential if you have data that cannot be replaced.

I do a weekly image of my C drive which is about 42gb & using a USB 3 external hard drive, the image process takes just over 5 minutes, using Macrium Reflect.

There is no reason why it should not work as images are a very common method of backing up the system.

Cool and thanks for the heads up on Macrium Reflect. I'll give it a go. My deal is that I like to format my boot drive at least twice a year. It's such a pain to get everything installed back right so I'm going to try it this way.

    Thanks for the help, man!!

Depending on the imaging program you're using and what kind of files you are backing up, backup images are usually compressed to around 40% or so. My C: drive is 82.8GB and the latest image I made of it using a paid version of Macrium Reflect Free is 37.9GB. You can image any size volume you want as long as you have room to store it.

What all do you have on your boot drive? 175GB seems awfully big unless you also have some games on it.
