Restore backup from separate hard drive.

    Hello

I'm new to this site and am not very techinally minded so will need simple explinations of how to do things!

Due to my HP Pavilion g7 being stuck in a loop of diagnosing and repair which I couldn't get it out of I have done a factory reset.
In one way I am pleased to have done this as it's now back on Windows 7 rather than Windows 10 upgrade.
During the factory reset process a screen came up with the option to do a backup of files.
As I had a lot of photos and documents on this laptop I did the backup which I saved on a separate hard drive.
So now my laptop is back to it's factory state and I need to know how to restore my files.
I can see the backup file on the separate hard drive, but when I go into the backup and restore on my laptop it doesn't find it.
I have also tried copying the backup on to the C drive of my laptop, but again my laptop doesn't find it.
So how do I get this backup to my laptop?
    The backup contains the following:
    A file 'FBData'
    A file 'language'
    BurnLibrary.dll
    DiscVerifierLib.dll
    FileBrowser.dll
    HPFileMgr.dll
    Restore
    Hopefully someone can help.
    Thanks in advance.

"As I had a lot of photos and documents on this laptop I did the backup"

Sounds like you did that from within w10. Possibly w7 won't recognize it because of that. I don't use the "file backup" feature, so can't be sure. There may be another way to access "FBDATA".

Are you sure they aren't zip files? If they are zip files, easiest is to use 7-zip

Yes it was from a Windows 10 upgrade.
They don't appear to be zip files.
Anyone know where I go from here?

Seems they may be HP backup files. The restore.exe may let you extract them .

So I opened the backup file and clicked on 'Restore'.
This opened the HP Recovery Manager.
I followed the prompts and a System Recovery file was saved to the C drive.
When opened I found all my photos and documents that I cut and pasted to the relevant user's folders.
So I have back all the user's photos, videos & documents.
Be good to think that I could recover all of my emails, browser bookmarks etc.
