    Recovering deleted desktop shortcuts

    Hello.

Got all desktop shortcuts removed (after uninstalling Steam with uninstaller, files and folders on desktop are intact). Tried R.Saver (free software to restore data from various disks, similar to Recuva), desktop folder got almost no deleted files with .lnk file extension (even with per-sector scan). However there are too many if I search R.Saver's scan results with *.lnk on all disk C (with OS).
Where could Windows store backups for desktop shortcuts (including temporary) other than in the dekstop folder?

Hi tuzuwet, welcome to the Forum.

Have you had a look in the Recycle Bin, they might be there.

Hi, right click desktop/left click Personalize/left click change desktop icons/left click restore defaults or click on and add what you want.

Nothing was in the recycle bin.
    Restore points turned off.
Since there were few shortcuts on dekstop in the first place, already restored them, but might miss some.
*.lnk search in hdd per sector whole scan results miss several that I remember, so I think they're overwritten.
