Cannot use system restore. Cannot use hotfix in safe mode.

I get this message when i login. I can do safe mode, but microsoft sent me the virtualization client hotfix...but i cannot use it in safe mode.

I recently ran microsoft updates. I had sworn off of them, but i kept getting zeus virus pop-ups...so i used hitman pro and it probably deleted something i needed.

Another message i get is that windows repair cannot run because something is plugged into a usb, which there is not.

I found advice about deleting explorer.exe from the registry to fix the problem. It did not, probably made things worse.

Any ideas? I have been at this for most of the day. Thanks in advance for any help.

System restore failed to replace the file (D:\programdata\microsoft\applicationvirtualizationclient\softgridclient\icon....) with its original copy from the restore point

So, give up? Backup my files and start over? Do i need to give more information? If it is unfixable, i will do it...if not let me know.

    Hi 313ryans,

Although you used Hitman to get rid of the pop-up, see this Zeus removal tutorial
    Remove Zeus Virus Detected PopUps

    Once completed,
then run from an elevated command mode
    sfc /scannow
    chkdsk /f

Hitman and everything else took care of zeus. The problem is with virtualization client, it is running in the background causing the problem.

I'm wondering exactly what all has been deleted from the registry. Last time some sort of registry-deletion of explorer.exe was tried, I think that person had to reach for the Windows install DVD.
