Restoring drivers, licenses & some settings after reinstalling Windows

    Hello All,

After repeated attempts and trying every possible solution to get rid of the 'Failed to Initialize' error for my firewire soundcard driver (my post - Failed to initialize' driver error - Windows 7 Help Forums), I have decided to re-install Windows as the final solution as always.

I use music softwares which can load up plugins like equalizers and reverb(.dlls) used for mixing music, and I have softwares & hundreds of plugins with licenses installed, atleast 8 other USB drivers, 4 virtual drivers, a wifi midi driver, my 32bit & 64 bit folders for plugins well sorted, and lot of nifty things I have done to help my workflow (Like making the softwares run as admin without the UAC prompt with the task scheduler, making a batch file to launch two softwares at once, 32-bit plugins patched to work in 64-bit environments, personalized icons, ad-hoc network).
I was really hoping to not go through installing and entering licenses for everything again (which was a pain for some plugins and I don't even remember what I finally did to get them to work).

Is it possible for me to restore all these 'things' after a clean install of Windows, while making sure that nothing about the faulty driver is restored? I fear that somewhere in the process of restoring licenses and drivers, the faulty driver's registries/traces will also come back(even if I un-install it before reinstalling Windows).Or if nothing else works will the firewire driver atleast work assuming all my hardware is fine? Really dont know what's going on.

Any help and advice wil be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Hello and welcome crystaldone now have you made any form of backup to begin with say an image you could reinstall with see this
Imaging with free Macrium - Windows 7 Help Forums now it could be that you could reinstall and use the image but have a read and see what you think because know exactly where you are coming form .

An alternative would be to have all those drivers licenses info put onto sticks so you can just us that after reinstall I don't know because I only have a rough idea of how much data you have got to shift.

If you do reinstall I urge you to clean the drive not just format it it to make sure there is no residual data left behind but the choice is yours the clean in any case takes no longer than the format to be honest. see this

Hi ICIT2LOL, Thanks for suggesting Macrium. Will definitely keep this handy. But wouldn't backing up right now also backup and restore whatever is coming in the way of this driver?

When you say transfer the licenses on a USB stick, do you mean I should export the registry and import it after reinstalling windows? Moreover I dont think all the license files are in one place in my case to easily transfer onto a USB stick. Some even required a license manager to be installed.

    Thanks
