    Transferring W7 to SSD

Hey guys, My current HDD is getting old and shows some wear with Crystal Disk Info. So I want to move it to another drive of mine, Samsung EVO 850, 250GB.

This is the computer in question:
    HP Pavilion dv7-6c23cl

I am wanting to create an Image of my HDD. I was thinking to Image the "System" Drive and the "C" Drive because I don't need or want the Recovery D Drive anymore, and have some Recovery Disks if needed. And just drop those two Partition Images on the new SSD, well, my used SSD that has an Old install of Windows 7 and Linux Mint in a Dual Boot situation from an old laptop that I don't use anymore.

My question is, do I need that "HP_TOOLS" "E" Partition once I get rid of the Recovery D Drive?

I will leave Diskpart and Disk Management if that helps. Thanks, Nasty7

    HTML Code:
    DISKPART> list partition

      Partition ### Type Size Offset
      ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
      Partition 1 Primary 199 MB 1024 KB
      Partition 2 Primary 672 GB 200 MB
      Partition 3 Primary 21 GB 672 GB
      Partition 4 Primary 4062 MB 694 GB

You only need system and c partitions the others are not needed and you have them on the old drive if needed. You say there are problems with the old drive do you mean it has had sectors if so they will be written to the new disk some clone tools have a special settings to not copy but if you don't use it you will have had blocks written to your new drive

Well that sucks! I don't really want to lose all my work, and a few programs that I don't want to lose licenses for.

I wonder if the Samsung Software has this capacity?

I will get back with the Crystal Disk Info. And I will attempt to run chkdsk /r to see if that will fix enough of the problems. I think I already ran chkdsk before, will that type of fix make this possilbe?

One issue I just had was, I could not use the 3.0 Port for the Destination of my WD Passport External Drive.

    Thanks, Nasty7

    What do I do?

My thinking is, download the Samsung Software to existing pc, and see if I can Clone the Two Partitions I want to the new drive in a External Drive Bay?

If I cannot do this, I may just keep using the drive till it dies for the reasons stated above.

Belarc Advisor (free) should be able to get your licenses.

You won't need the E partition if you have the Samsung recov disks.

Plenty of free software can copy the partitions for you. If you want to use usb3 , you will need to install usb3 drivers.

It's not the license itself, but Installing it again. I have MiniTool Power Data Recovery license and the copy only installs once or something. I've already gone through emailing them once and getting another download link to do this once, don't know if they will do it again. For some reason the Copy I have wont work a second time, even on the same computer, so I assume the software is written so you can't reinstall a second time.

Also, running out of installations of MS Office 2007, and don't know how many installs I have left of that either, and don't want to spend time on the phone with them...arrrgggg...you know how that goes. Can't really afford to buy a new Office, and really like that hog Office 07.

    Thanks though

Thanks SIW2, I'm confused as usual. I did make a copy of Macrium Reflect with WinPE_3.1 so don't know why it would not work. I use it all the time on my main desktop. I will post the Crystal Disk Info in the post below. I've been researching it to see if I can indeed get this done without reinstalling all this stuff. I have lot's of good stuff to keep on this laptop, iso's etc. Just backed it up and it took like an hour, so if things go well, I'll try to get those times down somehow, like just copying the OS Files and not all the other stuff.

Hopefully someone can tell me what to do with this situation...pleasssssseeeee! LOL. This is my main work laptop and really love it, though just today realized it was only SATA-II Capable, and I always thought it was SATA-III. Here is my CDI Text and a pic also, thanks so much for your time guys, especially on a Sunday. Clearly the most obvious one now is:
