    Hi pivo11,

There are various options in which you can disable the HDD.

The one that I would use [as would most other people] is to unplug the power supply and the HDD connection to the Motherboard in the tower prior to boot.

You can disable it in Device Manager:

Click Start > in the search box type devmgmt.msc > press Enter > Right Click the HDD drive letter [the non OS drive] > click Disable.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi,
    Sir(s),

1.You can disable it in Device Manager:
Click Start > in the search box type devmgmt.msc > press Enter > Right Click the HDD drive letter [the non OS drive] > click Disable.

@Paul Black : Sir, I disagree because this way we have disabled the HD in a particular installation while planning to boot into another installation media !
    2. If detaching disks is a troublesome & for other reasons, Just get us two 'disk management' windows views: (a) Zoomed Standard view without console tree & action pane (b) From top menu in zoomed disk management select " View > Top > Disk List " without console tree & action pane.

    Thanks & Regards. ...

    Dear Vineet,

To physically unplug the second HDD would be troublesome for me, so I would like to be able to do it via "device manager" or the BIOS. But I am afraid that I don't understand this.

"2. If detaching disks is a troublesome & for other reasons, Just get us two 'disk management' windows views: (a) Zoomed Standard view without console tree & action pane (b) From top menu in zoomed disk management select " View > Top > Disk List " without console tree & action pane."

What's wrong with just typing "device manager" in the search box and opening it and then "disk drives" > "drive letter of the disk you want to disable" > "(right click) disable " ?

    Cheers,
    Fritz

    Dear Paul and Vineet,

Real life has come around again and I need to use my machine so I won't be able to disable the second HDD and try to run "repair" until tomorrow night. I thank you both; I'll be back as soon as I can.

    Cheers,

Previous poster is correct, if the run box is on, one can simply type in the box: device manager -- and go on from there.

    Hi All,
    Greets,
    Sir(s),

    @pivo11: Sir,

    1. What's wrong with just typing "device manager" in the search box and opening it and then "disk drives" > "drive letter of the disk you want to disable" > "(right click) disable " ?
No danger doing that, you can go ahead! but I think that disabling harddisk such should not be fruitful!

2." If detaching disks is a troublesome & for other reasons, Just get us two 'disk management' windows' views: (a) Zoomed Standard view without console tree & action pane (b) From top menu in zoomed disk management select " View > Top > Disk List " without console tree & action pane."
    (a) Actually, I am not easy with detaching/disabling hdd in the BIOS as well. So, i was suggesting to get us two specific ''Disk Management'' windows' views to make sure that no hdd/ssd is doing the foul play!
    (b) Secondly, i wanted to make sure what are the settings applicable to your system while preparing installation media on USB pen drive ?

    Thanks & Regards. ...

Well, I'm back. Unfortunately disabling the second HDD did not solve the problem, I got exactly the same message as before; "This disk not compatible", etc. I have no idea what to do now. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

    Cheers,

    Hi, @pivo11 : Sir,
    1. First relax and sit in your chair for some time!
    2. Plugin your installation disk media which you want to use for repair. ( need not to boot into it )
    3. Take and post two snap shots of the Disk Management Window as per :
Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image - Windows 7 Help Forums

    (1) Standard View (2) from Standard Window > click the ''View' > 'Top' > 'disk list'' & snapping of the window.

    Thanks & Regards. ...

If you have an uefi installation, you need to boot into the system recovery using uefi.

The system repair disc created in win7 is not uefi compatible.

The installation dvd should be uefi bootable:
In bios setup, make sure the DVD drive is set to the same mode Windows was installed. In your case, uefi.

If you are having difficulty with that - it may be easier for you to create an uefi compatible usb stick from your installation iso.

You could use rufus to create the uefi bootable usb stick,, but this is simpler:
    Usb7ice.zip

The default is FAT32 - leave it like that and it will support both uefi and bios booting.
