System Repair disk not compatible with this version of Windows

G'day,

I've been getting BSOD "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" recently and so I tried to repair my Windows 7 Pro X64 system using the System Repair disc I had created after installation and received the message:

"This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of windows."

I then tried to repair using the original installation disc and received the same message. I also can not find "startup repair" via BIOS.

The BIOS is ASUS uefi bios and I have two SSD's, one for the system and one for data. The SSD for the system is first on the boot list. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi pivo11,

Have you got more than one HDD attached to the Motherboard?
If so, either detach the non Windows HDD or disable it in the BIOS and try again!

Its likley the problem is the repair disk is pre service pack to your current version so if it updated all the files would be wrong you need a repair disk with latests updates sp slip streamed

Yes, I have two hard drives. I'm not sure how to disable them, but I can't imagine it will be too hard. Thanks much!

Thanks, Samuria. I created a new repair disk on my machine but the same message appears. The installation disk is SP1. Is there some other way to update the repair disk?

Let's first get your system specifications sorted out in your UserCP > Edit System Spec setup and we can go from there. This will give us a better idea of what you are running and therefore we will be able to give you the correct advice!

Try disconnecting the other HDD [the non OS HDD] and then try the System Repair Disk and the Installation Disk again!

1.Did you try what sir said ( @Paul Black ) ?

2.Try to use an updated/slip streamed win 7 installation disk :
Create An Integrated Up To Date Windows 7 Install Disc â€¢ Raymond.CC

3. Were you trying ''Startup Repair'' ? i used win7 disk to repair vista sp2 many times . Actually, later OS supports some repairing on earlier OS. So, you can try win8 or win10 installation media to repair but first confirm with seniors whether it is applicable to your case ?

4. I suppose you are using original/untouched os installation medias !

EDIT : Windows Updates Downloader (WUD) is a little patchy as it hangs in between the downloading. I had to use CTRL+ALT+DEL to kill its hanged state again & again and make sure that every update is downloaded properly. Otherwise fine. I would like to try out WHDownloader with raymond's list in the near future!

Can I disable the HDD in Device Manager rather than in BIOS? Will that work?
