    Hi dwalk73,
Did you try from Safe Mode,
Restart Computer, begin pressing <F8> choose either safe mode or safe mode with networking.
    try running system restore
    If that didn't work
Try sfc /scannow from Administrative Command Prompt (CMD)
Hopefully you won't have any uncorrected errors.

Personally, from past experience, I don't rely on win system restore as it has failed me numerous times in the past!

Thanks Snick for those suggestions... I have done all of those restarts and did a sfc/scannow. Results of scan all 5 stages says: "Windows has checked the file system and found no problems. In the breakdown it shows 20 KB's in bad sectors but nothing else."

If I could send you the scan data in email so you can look at it you may see something I didn't.

    Thanks,
    Dave

You can upload the data to the forum using these instructions => Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

    I hope this helps!

Your HDD may have issues. Please download
    SeaTools
Check the checkbox to the left of your drive you wish to scan
    click on Basic Tests
and run Short Drive Self-Test and Short Generic

I thought we were working with a computer that will boot but you can't use system restore. Not much info in your original post regarding this!

Can you boot to OS normally or Safe Mode?

Snick, The os will boot and when it starts to load windows and cuts off and reboots with window saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the problem". During this reboot process I've used f-2, rebooted and used f-8, used f-12 and used the command prompt with commands of (bootrec /fixmbr) (bootrec /fixboot) ( bootrec / rebuildbed) & sfc /scannow.
