Restoring System Image error 0x80070057

I had a 180Gb SSD as the OS drive, created a system image to Drive D (1Tb). Subsequently Drive C failed. Needing to use the old Drive D for the new OS, I repartitioned it to 250GB & ... and moved the system image files to the new drive D.
When I go to restore the system image booting from Recovery disk, it says System image restore failed. The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)?

Any help would be much appreciated.

What imaging software did you use?
It is probably because the recovery disk is now holding the wrong parameters!

I hope this helps!

At what point do you get the message?

Does it seem to have attempted restore, or is that at the beginning?

Is the image the same firmware as you are currently booting ( mbr or efi) ?

You could try removing the dvd/usb after initiating the restore. Alternatively, you can use the wbadmin command to restore instead of the bmr UI.

Did you try the suggestions?

On second thoughts try removing the dvd\usb as soon as winpe has loaded into ram. I.E. when you see the first window where you can choose install NOW\repair my computer.

If that doesn't help, then you can use the wbadmin commands to restore from the image.

Another option is to use my boot media, so you can see what you are doing:

I am not familiar with wbadmin (launching/commands...?)

Removing the USB flash drive immediately before the restore process starts,
"Windows did not find any disk which it can use for recreating volumes present in backup."

What does your boot media do?

I think I may have discovered the issue here.
The system image of Disk0 (C) was put on Disk1 (D). Subsequently, Disk0 failed. I therefore partitioned Disk1 into 2 drives (C&D), moved the backup files to partition2 of Disk0 hoping to restore the image to partition1 of Disk0. I believe that because the image is stored on Disk0 Part2, windows can not restore the image having required to format and repartition Disk0 that (contains the image).

Does this make sense and how do I work around this? Can I move the image to another drive so that that drive gets excluded from the format/repartition work.

Many thanks for the help.
