    Re-delete restored files ?

    Hi guys !

So , I've mistakenly restored over 200 files from the recycle bin .

Problem is , I can't remember which files exactly , they've been in the recycle bin since ages , so , just knowing the original location doesn't help at all.

Is there a way to find out which files exactly were restored , locate them and delete them again ?

    Thanks in advance !

As far as I know, the recycle bin is like a holding container. The two main reasons for the files being there are to either be deleted or possibly restored. They are held there just in case you made a mistake deleting them in the first place!

I quick tested my Windows 7 Professional recycle bin, choices are: restore, cut or delete -- all of which empty out the earlier deleted file pointers.
If you had Resplendence's Undeluxe or anything similar, that would have given you its pointers of deleted files.
Wait a minute, even better, going forward: you can right-click within recycle bin and choose Original Location, then, from now on, you will be given the original location of every deleted file that now has its pointer within the recycle bin.

I think, once a file is restored, there is no way of telling that it had been in the recycle bin. The File System has no file attribute that marks individual files as restored, and, there is no "undo" function built into the Operating System.

Unless, just unless, you have already created a system image backup. If you have a backup system image, then there is a small chance you could pehaps mount that image and check the original recycle bin there. You would need make a note of each file in the recycle bin of the mounted system backup.

If you cannot remember what you had deleted, then it probably is not doing you any harm to have these file items restored. I have things on my computer that I have already forgotten what they are for.

Yet, if I need to delete anything, the first places to look are 1) The Download Folder, 2) Pictures Folder (any naff photo gets deleted), 3) Documents Folder (Draft Documents get deleted often). These are three places worth considering, should you want to find unwanted files on your computer.
