How to Recover Deleted Folders
Hello -
I'm using a Dell 755 with Win 7 Ult 64-bit OS, The other nite I accidentally deleted some needed folders.
I tried the windows recovery process - no help. Not even sure that was meant for data files anyway.
I was concerned about running unknown recovery software on this PC so I used a spare unit & downloaded the free version of Active Uneraser by LSoft Technologies. Created a copied folder, did a permanent delete and then ran Uneraser. It (at first) did 'find' the *named* folder - and identified it as a folder.
Note that this spare PC only had a single partition C drive and you don't want to 'recover' to the same partition. So, I targeted a new folder in another PC in the home group. When I did the unerase function, it did a write to the target PC BUT it did so as a FILE, not a folder. The contents were trash. Tried it several more times and eventually it failed to display the proper folder name (labelled it 'New Folder') but never wrote it successfully. Perhaps this failure was due to not saving it to the local PC (could have tried a jump drive but didn't).
I've seen and read about 'Recova'. Seems to have a decent reputation.
So, can anyone either comment on Recova or some other TESTED AND RELIABLE program?
Will appreciate any help.
Fred
