    System Restore pts disappear:related to User Profile anomaly?

    This question (subdivided) concerns a single, non-networked PC, w/a single user: a Toshiba Satellite A300 running Windows7 Ultimate x64. All previous such queries I read here were directed to use Macrium, which crashed my sys the 2x I've downloaded the Backup trial v.

    Q.1. Is there a Macrium Lite - w/just the ISO feature?

    Bear w/me. The 1st questions concern how to figure no. of GB or % of disc to allocate to Sytem Restore, which only half-works. It makes Restore points, but doesn't retain them for long. They disappear usually within 12 hours, occasionally within days, as others have written here.

    Q.2. concerns possible causes:

    Could it be because CCleaner is used at the end of every online session? If possible, what type of files should be excluded?
    Q. 2.b. Could it be because Sys Restore has been configured to use 32% of C drive - 18GB - and at present, C drive is at 114 GB free of 202 GB total? (D drive at 77.4 GB free of 162)
    I.e., there's no room to give Sys Restore adequate space?
    I don't even know:

    Q.3. Theoretically, how much space is Sys Restore supposed to have relative to total disc data?

    Or what % of disc?

    How to figure, for purposes of configuration?
    Is one is supposed give it 100%? That's 202GB, in the present instance.
    Wouldn't that make it an ISO?
    Are System Restore points in fact System Images? If so, doesn't it need as much space as all the data in the system [compressed in some way]?

    I looked at User Profiles, & there seemed to be an anomaly. I wonder if there's a clue - or not.
    The Standard account that's in use 98% of the time, w/99% of the files, shows just under 8 GB. Then there's:
    - a Standard account used until 7/18 that got glitchy, at just under 2 GB;
    -a Guest account that's turned off, at 145 MB;
    - the original Admin account that the prior owner used to death, w/187 MB of history files, at 8.05 GB; &
    -THE ANOMALY: the NEW Admin account, created 5 months ago,& only to use for administrative tasks if & when necessary, with 187 MB of files in it & a few downloads. This showed 202 GB - 100% of C drive ----that is, until Sys Restore was pushed to 100% / 202 GB & saved; then it appeared that
    this Admin account had diminished to 141 GB.
    Then Sys Restore was brought back down to 18% / 32 GB and saved;
    but there was no change since then in the Admin acount profile- it's standing at 141 GB.

    So Q.4. is: could this enormous/anomalous allocation of space to 1 User Profile be possibly causing a problem for System Restore (&/or other problems?) ?

    Q.5. Is one allowed to / advised to bring this User profile allocation down to something more in the range of what the others show?
    If so, how? In System "Change settings" there's no option to change the allocation of space for user profiles - only local vs. roaming types.-- even when logged onto the Admin account.
    And if so, how to determine what quanta to choose?

    Thank you in advance for any input.

    Have you tried changing the amount of disk space used for System Restore Points and System Images to say 20%?

    Click Start => Control Panel => System => System protection in the left hand pane.
    Close the Control Panel => All Control Panel Items => System window.
    Click C: to highlight it => click Configure.

    Adjust the Max Usage: slider to how much disk space you want System Protection to use => click OK => click OK.

    I hope this helps!

    Hi AbbeyBoo,

    Believe that CCleaner has as an option to delete Restore Points - is yours enabled??
    So do many tune-up tools and AV's

    As for your profiles
    Get rid of the ones you dont need

    User Account - Delete
    DO a MACRIUM BACK UP First.

    further reading

    Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable

    Those UserProfile values look rather heavy, see mine in screenshot
    (have known this to be caused by a Virus)

    Your Questions

    Are you looking for Iso media, if so getting hold of one is not a problem
    Macrium will back up what YOU want

    System restore settings, general advice is about 20/25% per drive
    (note it is NOT a complete OS backup thats why theres an Advanced Recovery option)

    User Profile sizes are system generated you CANNOT lower this

    Have you noticed your system slowing down

    Hi Paul - sorry to take so long getting back to you.

    Yes, I moved it to 18% months ago. Didn'dt make much difference.

    -The old (prior owner's) user profile (admin; still there but I've never used) is holding steady at 3.04 GB, which seems high- down from 3.05 GB (I misquoted it at 8.05 GB in original post);

    -then there's a profile that was the main (standard) user acct before it got glitchy & I stopped using it (may have been admin once), w/almost no files in it, at 1.92 GB-seems high for its size;

    -the profile associated w/my current in-use standard acct, which has most files-but only c.4.7GB worth, & that user profile's still at a whopping 8.44 GB!

    -There's also my current (c.never used) admin acct; that profile's at 165 MB;

    -a GUEST profile- never used, 0 files - at 149 MB;

    -& the "Default Profile"-what's that? Can I get rid of it?-at 1.50 MB.

    I'm still concerned about what seem to me to be overly large values in these User Profiles.
    Am I correct that disproportionate values would impinge on the amount of system memory available for performance and/or programs?

    My machine was running slower, yes. The one thing that has helped in that respect was recently, when I turned off Windows Defender- & it was as if heavy weights had been taken off the system all over. Wonderful! It seems it was duplicating certain real-time Kaspersky functions.

    I haven't seen signs of virus or malware. You can see the protection I use in my sys specs.

    Again, thanks. If you think of anything else that would help here, feel free.

    Hi AbbyBoo,

    Working from the bottom up from your last post

    System specs show 2GB RAM you NEED at least 4 for Ultimate

    As your using Kaspersky Defender SHOULD have been turned OFF automatically

    Profiles
    LEAVE THE DEFAULT ALONE, its a back-up you will find it on installs
    (i've actually only got me and default present - max size 154mb)
    As i said before remove the others
    User Account - Delete
    (IF when you try to remove the previous owners Admin you get access denied we will need to go a different way)

    Did you check the settings in CCLEANER, is it removing Restore points.
