restore Backup from win 7 to win 10

I am still using win 7 and do a complete backup every week. The win 7 back up always includes a system image. Can I use this backup to transfer all my files when I get a new pc with win 10, even though the system image is not required. If not how do I create a backup without a system image

Welcome to the forum. How and with what are you creating the backup? You could restore pure data but not any software if the data is in user profile like desktop etc it may give problems as the user on ten won't be the same even if the name is the same

    Hi

I would not reccomend going that way

there will be a major number of drivers that will not be on your old W7 image, that relate to your different computer, especially if one is legacy and the other EUFI (Bios).
The more long winded and safer way would be to clean install W7 on the new comp including USB3 drivers, then perform the upgrade from this after you have applied the image

    BIG NOTE
Run your W10 for a couple of days so it picks up a Digital licence

I do not want to do that as I am buying a new pc with w10 already installed. I just want to transfer all my files to the new w10 pc from my existing w7 pc which I use at present and do the win 7 backups. I am quite happy to reinstall all my programs onto the w10 pc first, probably using the latest versions

So all you want is to copy docs, photos etc? The safest way is to copy files over the network once you get the new PC

It is hard to make sure you can succeed if op copy files over the network, because it is easy to lose something.
