Restore backup from ext hdd

Hello,

I am new here.

My hdd was giving me issues (now unable to use back) and thus I decided to backup the data into the ext hdd which used usb 3.0.

I did create a Windows repair dvd or startup dvd.

Checking some of the threads here which stated that usb 3 driver was not included in the startup or repair dvd.

thus, are there methods to recover the data from the ext hdd into a new hdd?

The ext backup hdd contained two partions of one OS (Win 7 64 bits) and other files (separate drives).

would the restore if possible also restore them into the same 2 partion?

Welcome to Seven Forums.

About the HDD -

you probably should run a CHKDSK scan on the System Drive (usually C:\), to check the integrity of the files on that drive.

About the Repair DVD -

Read this thread Windows 7 Repair Disc needs USB 3 support integrated and especially follow @SIW2 advice

About the backup -

What software had you used to perform the backup? Most software will let you restore that backup to a different (ie new) disk drive, provided your new HDD (partition) is the same size or larger than the backed up drive/partition(s)

Thanks for the prompt replied.

I did try to use the faulty hdd and it shown "SMART Failure predicted" informing me to backup and replace hdd.

So far the ext hdd unable to detect during the loading using the startup dvd.

I used the Windows backup and restore ones.

How are you getting on?

Sounds like the drive is on its way out. You are doing the right sort of things to replace it.

Now, download 7re2x64.zip from the link I provided in post #2. Burn it to DVD, then you'll have a Startup Disk with USB3 support.

Being busy trying to acess the faulty hdd...

Managed to start up the system...

Now trying to clone the hdd.

For the first partition which contained the OS. Sec one contained the docs and other files. That ones looked like the issue as it slowly cloning when compared to the ones which have the OS which much faster.

Hi, after an overnight of cloning... the OS was successful being cloned which was one the first partition. The sec ones was not able to due to bad sectors.

Finally able to start up using the new hdd.

so far so good... there were some issues when during first startup using the new hdd.

so far even managed to try to clone the sec partition of the faulty hdd and into the new ones.

did try twice before able to do it.

was considering to get new larger hdd as secondary to store more doc but now decided against getting such larger hdd.

Faulty ones only use about 830 GB of data out of the 2TB ones already took that much time and effort to try recover the data inside.

So far would monitor few days to see if still got any issues.

Managed to fix the BSOD... Run the Chkdsk to fix it.

Now another issue appeared... Network controller. Driver missing.

Tried updating them.

So far not yet fixed.

Seem to tell me it time to get a new ones.

About the new issue

How did you try to update the Driver software?
Did you go into Device Manager, and see the Network adaptor there?
Were there any devices in Device Manager that had warning signs next to them (ie, did any device in Device Manager display a Yellow Triangle with an exclamation symbol) ?
It could be that you got to download and install the Network LAN driver from the manufacturers website. You might have to uninstall the Network adaptor first, before proceeding to install the LAN driver software.
