Can't mount vhdx file from Windows Backup Image - Parameter is incorre

I'm trying to access the files of a windows backup image - a vhdx file to recover some files.

This backup image - 300gb, on an external hd was made on a windows 7 and is 4 years old.

I'm running windows 7 now and when I try to mount the vhdx file from the backup using ofsmount, I get "...Drive is inaccessible. Parameter is incorrect."

When I try to attach the vhdx file from disk management, the vhdx file is not recognized for me to select.

I tried to extract the files using 7zip and it gets stuck about 40% through with a message saying, "Error: Data recovery ended suddenly.

NOTE: The image, 350gb is bigger than the laptop hd I'm using which is only 250gb, but I have an external 2 tb hd.

Any suggestions?

Hello fatbottoms,

Here is instruction tutorial on Virtual Hard Disk - Create and Attach VHD

Drive is inaccessible. Parameter is incorrect
This usually mean that the OS has found bad sectors on the HDD. From an open cmd prompt window, run chkdsk [Drive] /r to repair any bad sectors on the HDD

Yes, running easeus found bad sectors, but it ran for days no where near completion so long I discontinued it. I will try the check disk. Thanks.

Windows Image Backup file taking up 400GB+
Hi guys, thanks for looking at this. We've had a desk top for some time now, and we have two drives, as you might expect, the C Drive & D Drive. We have never used the D Drive, but it has been getting filled up slowly in a .vhd file, starting with the title D:WindowsImageBackup. This...

Choosing between a file backup and a image backup...
I've recently upgraded to a 1.5TB external hard drive for video production work, which has left me with a 500GB drive which is no longer needed. I'm thinking of using it as a backup. Is Windows backup sufficient? Or should I be looking at specialist software? Also, I'm probably just going to...

Native Windows 7 Disc Image Mount/Burning Software?
Is there? I'd like to burn a cue/bin set of files and wonder if the basic Win7 burning software will burn them properly or if I should use a 3rd party app? If the basic Win7 burning software doesn't, is there a freeware from MS for it? Thanks!
Windows 7 Full Image Backup - VHD file
I have done restoring the vhd file to a partition where the original os resides. It appears also possible to restore the backup to a brand new hard drive instead. Is it correct?
