or this one?

USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive Adapter Cable/UASP -SATA to USB3.0 Converter | eBay

The Dynamode ad hasn't been updated since WinXP

I think some showed the item with a wall wart power supply.

To test out the Macrium system, $6.00 seems like a good option. Dynamode does have the PC mag seal of approval. I'll see what's on New Egg or somewhere.

I appreciate the advice.

I should have said many other brands are available

I wouldn't buy the cheapest though, some are better made than others.

I don't have any of the cable types, but I do have that Dynamode enclosure. I also have a 2nd enclosure that is dual-purpose, takes SATA or IDE drives.

Here's an explanation on external drives, controllers, etc.
How to Turn an Old Hard Drive Into an External Drive
StarTech USB3S2SAT3CB USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III Hard Drive
Make sure you know your drive size, 2.5" or 3.5" connectors are different
Cable connectors are cheapest.
Case with connectors, well, yes more expensive...
HDD cheaper than SSD, lasts longer too.

FYI: Be careful when you are connecting the drives if you are using a cable connector version, plastic connectors on the drives break easy if you stress them. Speaking from experience! Sometimes cheapest is not the best choice. All plastics are not created equal.

Sorry for the delay in answering. I've been in the process of buying a refurb 2Tb, sending it back for heat issues and _now_ I have two working 2Tb drives on my test box for Macrium.

I ran the old standby Ghost right away to secure my backups.

Macrium sees both HDs ok.

What is the difference (in my ignorance) between running Macrium to an external USB HD and
this second drive on SATA? I have seen the Startech devices and may still go that route just to
experiment. For USB2 and a 3.5 HD an external power supply is needed. But for now, how would Macrium Reflect clone the boot drive?

I have Macrium how tos printed out but those sheets are pretty old.
