I did a temporary workaround. I ran a differential backup on this folder every 24 hours instead of by resetting the archive bits.

I think every Diff I ran started a full backup because when I ran the full backup, I hadn't checked to reset the archive bit. So the diff thought they were all to be backed up. Do I have that right?

Yes, if you want to use a Differential as the next backup, the the first Full must reset all the archive bits.

So far so good. To keep the original file dates, do you suggest I set these options?

As I said, I don't use Backup Maker. But ticking 'Store modification time' and 'Store creation time' look like they should do what you want.

I prefer 7-Zip, and in that dates of files are always preserved.

Backup Maker Creates 1 zip file. Is that a vulnerability?
I have 534GB in 7 folders I need to back up from HDD to SSD. As a test, I ran a full backup for 2 of the folders, and it successfully created a single zipped file for each folder's contents. The only reservation I have is if that single zipped file becomes corrupt. Is it safer to copy all the files...

Old Laptop HDD's for backup / archive

Booyah to all you outlook brainiacs! I use OUTLOOK for many email accounts, mostly POP but also Office365 and also to hook up with my corporate clients using exchange. (No - I'm not a great bit-twiddler anymore, I just work on business stuff.) I run a Windows 7 notebook that I carry around. ...

What image backup files to copy to archive device?
I am making regular backups - both the image backup and the file sets using Windows 7 Backup program. No problems with that. But, I periodically would like to copy the image backup to a portable drive. I plan to take this portable drive offsite to a secure location - I call it my archive. ...

Is my backup and archive strategy too complicated?
I recently set up my first NAS using an old compute and FreeNAS to free up my main computer ( a netbook but I'm building a pc in a couple of weeks, so I'll need to back up both ). This led me to rethink how I'm doing backups, as the USB attached drive I used to backup to is now in the NAS server. ...
