How to make a recovery usb without the option?

i want to upgrade to windows 10 but before that i need to make a recovery usb but it is not possible on my computer because i can only make recovery disks, right now i am in lockdown and i cant buy the disks that are needed though i am pretty sure there must be a way to just create a recovery usb so if the upgrade fails i could just recover my windows 7. i am not very tech savvy so help would be very appreciated

I am also going to make a system image so if any files get deleted i could restore it
i don't know if this is the best way or if its just better to copy and paste my c: drive with all videos and pictures to my external hard drive

Welcome to the forum. If you create a image that's all you need. Once your in 10 there is an option to recover back to 7 for 30 days and you have all your files in the image. Just goto media creation tool hit upgrade and all files will be there after upgrade

You need to make an image of the entire hard drive. (All partitions) If something goes wrong then you can restore the whole drive.
Please don't use windows to make the image, use any of the free softwares out there such as "Aomei Backuper" and please read the options and set it to "VALIDATE" the image. Takes longer but you will know the image is good. Please "DO NOT USE THE COMPUTER WHILE THE IMAGE IS BEING PROCESSED" or the validation "WILL" fail.
    Download Free Windows Backup Software
Just click the "Download Freeware" link.

You can create boot media with the imaging program ( aomei). It can create bootable iso image or bootable usb. You can boot that and restore an image you have stored on a disk .

The activation is included in the image. Restore the image back to the same machine and it will still be activated.

Yes. The image file is just a file. You can store it on a disk that has other files and folders on it.

Depending what volumes you choose to include in the image file, it can be quite big. Do you have a large enough disk to store it on?

yes my system image will be about 340gb and i have 730 free on my external hard drive

thanks i will make a system image from freeware on my external hard drive
and on a usb ill create the bootable medie

and just incase i have found a windows 7 iso and i will use the windows usb/dvd program to burn it on a different usb if aomei fails

i think this is a pretty much a good fail proof way am i right? though i do hope i dont have to go through any of those and windows 10 will install just fine
