Factory restore with F8 - error message

Hi! I've tried, multiple times yesterday - to bring my other Windows 7 laptop computer back to factory new condition by using the F8 key, as is commonly recommended online. I've done it before successfully in the past. But this time, I got this error message that said something like, 'There is no backup available, and so it isn't possible to do a factory restore on this computer." I had not chosen to restore from an image - I simply chose the last option offered on the page - that of letting the computer itself restore from it's factory stored backups. But this time, as i said, I get that error message, and so have been unable to restore it successfully to factory new condition. If it helps you to know what made me decide to do factory new restore on my computer - well, it was because I downloaded Windows Movie maker 12, and it must have had a virus, since it was a free program, and that is more common with free programs. Not only was I unable to use the new download of it, but I also was unable to use my old movie maker program, as it had made it nonfunctional. In addition, it removed my access to Google chrome browser. And prevented me from downloading it again. So anyhow, if you can think of anything to try to fix this problem, please let me know. Thanks!

Hi! Good news! I was able to get online with Google chrome just now - it helped to lower the security level first. But of course, I still need to fix the windows movie maker problem. But for now, I'd still like very much to know how to successfully run the Restore to factory new condition process if I still need it or if I need it in the future.

It doesn't look like you have a factory recovery partition. Do you have the factory recovery discs?

The system partitions seems a bit strange as its over a gig it may be worth assigning a drive letter to it and see whats inside as it may be in there. Why mess with movie maker when you can get this free Download HitFilm Express | for Mac & PC - fxhome.com and loads of tutors on Youtube and its better than Adobe

Windows Movie Maker was part of Microsoft Windows Essentials 2012. This is no longer available to download from MS, they removed the downloads from their servers back in 2017. However, the pages and downloads have been preserved in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Only the Offline installer will work, it can be downloaded from this archived Microsoft page.

Thanks for all of your helpful comments on this! I am not able to use the restore disks I bought some time back, as the CD/DVD door fell off - so I have to open it through using the button for that under "My computer." That would work the first time, but not the following times after the restore process has started. And I gather from Samuria's comment- that it looks like it might be possible. But that it looks strange so I imagine the strangeness is due to the pecularities of the model. So I got the idea to ask how to do it on the Lenovo site, since this computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad. It looks like it is possible, according to what I read about it on their site. Also thanks for the options of what options I might choose to get what I need to convert the wmv slideshow I created with Windows movie maker 11 - to a format that will be best for uploading to Youtube and Facebook.

    Hi Debby,

    Use a USB to install.

Iso links can be provided, Rufus required to make it bootable
