    System Restore fails

I can create restore points, but cannot perform system restores from them.

Windows reports that the restore failed, and that no files or settings were changed.

I have attempted to reinstall system restore by right clicking sr.inf in the windows/inf folder, but the sr.inf file is not there even after telling Windows to show hidden files and folders, and to not hide extensions for known file types.

I have tried locating sr.inf on my build 7000 dvd, but can't find it.

If I can't somehow find a copy of Windows 7 sr.inf in order to reinstall System Restore, then I cannot think of any other option than to repair the Windows 7 installation. It would be nice if this weren't necessary.

If anyone can suggest any other solutions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Are you dual booting with XP or Vista by any chance? If so, read here: System Restore Points - Stop XP Dual Boot Delete - Vista Forums

Just substitute OS's as appropriate, the same principle applies.

Then you may wish to try a repair install: Repair Install

Have you tried turning OFF system restore, including the running service, and then restarting system restore? You will lose all created restore points, but worth a shot? :)

Yep, I tried that. No luck. Thanks. I really think I need to reinstall System Restore by right-clicking on sr.inf as has been detailed in many forums. But as I said, my system has no sr.inf file. Please keep the suggestions coming. Many Thanks.

Yes, I also plan to do a Repair Install. But it would be nice if that weren't necessary. Please keep the suggestions coming. Thanks.

I assume the program is running normally until you try to restore. Maybe if you went through your steps you use to create a restore, including which drive you are using, and then the actual restore attempt, someone would see something causing a problem. Make sure and include the amount of free space on the drives.

Any messages in Event Viewer around the time of your attempted restores?

Have you used any patches to remove the Watermark?
