I restarted it and ran it again. This time it was 7.

EDIT: the first time I had a loading box that clearly said loading win 8.1 recovery, the second time it didn't show any loading box. But, after booting into the program I went into recovery and it showed Windows 7.

It's interesting. Macrium now recommends and makes a PE4 iso even on Windows 7.

Actually, two or three updates ago, MR came out with a PE5. I think Win 8 was its target but it works just fine in Win 7.

Yes I noticed that but PE4 is the default even on a Win7 system.

This from MR:

Windows PE 5.0
Macrium Reflect now includes the option to create Windows PE 5.0 rescue media. Windows PE 5.0 is based on Windows 8.1 and provides the latest Windows kernel and driver database. Windows PE 5.0 rescue media can be created with all Windows operating systems except for Windows XP.

If you are using winpe downloaded from waik/wadk, it does not include windows recovery options.

That is one reason why using winre.wim from your hard drive is better.

However, if you are using winpe.wim from waik/wadk, it doesn't which you use on 7. Both 8 and 8.1 have built in support for (most) usb3, so that saves adding usb drivers, which you would probably do with win7 waik winpe.wim . No big deal, it is easy to do.

I suspect that some people (e.g. me) might not find it easy to do.

What is the best way to back up and extract installed drivers?

Macrium Free vs Macrium Pay
I am using the free version. I have visited the site and read what the pay version does. As far as I can tell the incremental backups is really the only thing that seems worthwhile. I was just curious if anyone has tried the pay version and found a feature that made it worth paying for. Thanks,

Macrium Reflect Free, AHCI, IDE system backup & restore
Hi, I have just upgraded my system and am now using a single Windows 7 install on a Samsung SSD hard drive. This was installed and running under AHCI rather than IDE which I was previously used to. This is for the performance benefits of Sata/SSD from what I can understand. I know that I...

Macrium free backup won't end
Every time I do a system backup it progresses fine until both progress bars get to Overall Progress 99% and Time remaining 01 second. It continues to run as long as I allow it. Finally after a half hour I click cancel, but it still continues to run so I have to do a hard shut down to end it. This...
