HAA!! It lives. I woke up Wednesday and all I had was a blinking curser on my machine. I followed thru and got a WD Black 1T HD and figured if it didn't work might as well go with a SSD for C if I have t do it the hard way. Folks I had already downloaded the http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx free home version and created the USB boot before my OEM C died a few days ago. It took me while to get my PC to boot from changing the boot order to the DVD windows disc and get win to run. I held my breath and followed the clone steps and it FREAKIN WORKED! Now Im running on my new WD Black and I also got a new SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250 G while at frys. I figured if I had to do a total clean install might as well do it right.
I had page faults for a month and when it died the bios dell tests showed error 2000-0142 validation 3605

I am now back among the living on the new drive and the folks at Macrium are my hero's.
Now Im going to create an image to a WD green drive I bought by mistake first and put it away for the time being. Then Im going to figure out how to install the SSD as my C with operating system. Love this place. And if anyone can point to a thread or tutorial how to change to the SSD that would be icing on the cake.

Were it not for this software Id be doing a clean install and pulling my hair out.

You may not have intended to get that Green but getting it was not a mistake. The WD Greens are ideal for storing backups on, making your acquisition more of an unexpected, fortunate event. I have twelve of them (seven 2TB and five 4TB) that I use for the backups of the three WD Blacks in my desktop machine.

Well now I have different but not fatal problem. My BIOS shows the new green drive in the bay since I put in the new green drive and took out the OEM barracuda drive. Yet it does not show in my windows directory and my external D Seagate still does though. I even tried moving it to a different SATA input on the MB and its shows no problem on the BIOS but windows seems to not see it. I can live with this but I just wanted to image a copy to this before I pulled it to figure out how to install the ssd 250g and make it primary.

Here is the tutorial i use as a guide for transferring an OS from a HD to SSD.
SSD - Install and Transfer the Operating System

I have multi-boot PC's, I use the free Geeky method.
I'm not sure if the easy paid product would work for me with multiple OS's (never tried it).

Anyway, for me it's free, i learn, and it works !

If you want to do a clean install on the SSD, that's something different...

David, I have multiple OS's and use Paragon Migrate. It works perfect. When you start it will show every OS you have installed and just ask which one you want to transfer. See this if you care to watch.

Thank you obi-wan Steve

I never used Paragon Migrate because i never needed to migrate from one hardware/install/os to a different hardware/install/os.
I've read about it, just never thought i needed it so far for what i do ...

I've done a lot of "migrates" to a new storage structure/device (SSD/HD), using macrium and/or acronis.

I'll have to look at this, and do some re-thinking !

Have you tried looking for it in Disk Management? It may need to be initialized before you can see it to format it.

Yup. Found it and its online and I have already transferred some stuff to the new H drive. Thanks for the pointer. For those of us who do not do these tasks frequently if at all its nice to have help. I do PLCs and CNCs and Robots etc. Different skillset.

I'm just curious. Let say I do Incremental backup every day, and a Full backup every 7 days.

Will MR merge the 7 incremental backup files to my old Full backup file, or MR will just create a new Full backup file and delete the older incremental files?

Macrium Free vs Macrium Pay
I am using the free version. I have visited the site and read what the pay version does. As far as I can tell the incremental backups is really the only thing that seems worthwhile. I was just curious if anyone has tried the pay version and found a feature that made it worth paying for. Thanks,

Macrium Reflect Free, AHCI, IDE system backup & restore
Hi, I have just upgraded my system and am now using a single Windows 7 install on a Samsung SSD hard drive. This was installed and running under AHCI rather than IDE which I was previously used to. This is for the performance benefits of Sata/SSD from what I can understand. I know that I...

Macrium free backup won't end
Every time I do a system backup it progresses fine until both progress bars get to Overall Progress 99% and Time remaining 01 second. It continues to run as long as I allow it. Finally after a half hour I click cancel, but it still continues to run so I have to do a hard shut down to end it. This...
