I guess this is a stupid question but...

Can I Image a 160GB Drive and Restore it to a 120GB Drive?

I'm using sysprep, and eventually want to do this. I notice that when I Restore the 160GB Drive to a bigger drive, it is placed/imaged as 160GB. So I would assume that the opposite would create an issue, but just don't know?

You can if the used space on the 160 GB drive is less than 120 GB.

@essenbe, well, thank you very much! This will be very helpful to know. I'm mostly Imaging a Windows 7 Clean Install to other drives/computers, so it is much smaller than 120GB. Clearly, I'm wanting to be prepared to use this image on an inexpensive SSD. And, now creating a Windows 8.1 Sysprep Image.

This thread is a bit overwhelming.
Does the information/instructions in the first post still apply today ?
Is there a newer tutorial buried somewhere amongst these 200 pages (or somewhere else) ?

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

We have a newer tutorial over at tenforums, I think it's all pretty much the same for Windows 7 Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect | Tutorials

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Pro machines.
    Using free version 6.3.1745
Do I need a separate individual Rescue Media CD for each machine; or, will the discs be identical regardless of the machine ?

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

Can drive images, Macrium or Windows, be moved or copied between external drives? Or do they have to stay on the EHD that they were made on for some reason?

You should be OK. The only difference would be drivers. Try making a rescue disk for one and see if it will boot on the other.

I am far from qualified to even stick my nose in this one; however, I have several times copied images to other disks, both Windows images and AOMEI BackUpper images.
If you remove the image from the original location, you need to document just what Drive Letter you had before and just where you moved things, as you may need to re-establish that path for a restore.
