    Hi,

    The winpe I made is 32bit.

    Unfortunately, the .cmd file didn't work. I've posted the error message below..

    ** get access to PE_SYS hive **
    INFO: Processing ACL of: <machine\PE_SYS>
    ERROR: Reading the SD from <machine\PE_SYS> failed with: The system cannot find
    the file specified.

    SetACL finished with error(s):
    SetACL error message: The call to GetNamedSecurityInfo () failed
    Operating system error message: The system cannot find the file specified.

    INFO: Processing ACL of: <machine\PE_SYS>
    ERROR: Reading the SD from <machine\PE_SYS> failed with: The system cannot find
    the file specified.

    SetACL finished with error(s):
    SetACL error message: The call to GetNamedSecurityInfo () failed
    Operating system error message: The system cannot find the file specified.

    Press any key to continue . . .

    I used WAIK and the instructions on the MS website to make winpe. The default would open a command window. Then I added Paragon Backup & Recovery 2012 Free to the image, and got it to load on startup using the [LaunchApps] section in Winpeshl.ini. That was fine. But I haven't had any success with trying to get Easeus Partition Master 9.10 Home Edition (Free) to work, because of the issue with the registry.

    My last step (if I got Easeus Partition Master 9.10 Home Edition (Free) to load correctly) would have been to create a small gui to start up with simple buttons on it to start either app or to open a command window. When I found your app I thought I could just use that rather than re-invent the wheel...

    The app. I posted is for making a simple 64 bit pe.

    It doesn't include support for 32 bit coded programs.

    Did you use the x86 winpe.wim from WAIK3.0 - Or from the WAIK3.1 supplement?

    The one I got is from here Download: Windows® AIK for Windows® 7 - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details. The downloaded iso is named KB3AIK_EN.iso. So I assume it is 3.0...

    It should be ok - the first part of the command gives ownership to admin - that is you - the second part gives acces to everyone.

    The first part worked - so you should be able to import the reg entries.

    I just did it here without any problem - using winpex86.wim from WAIK 3.0

    hmm, yes it should work. Actually I've even tried modifying the permissions manually before, added myself with full permissions, the administrator with full permission, still didn't work. Perhaps there's something else going on. Maybe I'll just try a regular .reg file to see if I can import into my machine's registry first to see if I have any problems and then I'll experiment with putting the system file from the wim image elsewhere, load it, and test that...

    thanks for your help... much appreciated

    Got it working now .... yay!

    The registry problem, after everything, turned out to be a typo ... duh!

    I was loading the hive to PE-SYS and the .reg files were trying to merge to PE_SYS, so after fixing my load command, the merge was applied successfully.

    Having copied the appropriate .sys files from my system32 folder (although I noticed the sysWOW64 folder had copies as well), the app still was complaining about the device driver not being available. A little search on google informed me that the sysWOW64 folder had the 32-bit version of the drivers and the system32 folder had the 64-bit ones ... yep, that made sense to me.. NOT!

    So I copied over the files from the sysWOW64 folder and it is now working!

    My next step is to create a simple little gui with 3 buttons - Paragon Backup & Recovery, Easeus Partition Manager, and command window.

    Thanks so much for your help!

    Guys, I'm trying to update my WinPE restore disc to 4258, but when I run the wizard, I get: "Download Error: unable to download, the operation completed successfully, click retry to try again."

    I have the WAIK downloaded and installed and I can cancel out of the error and recreate my 4118 recovery disc. Do I need to uninstall WAIK and start from scratch?

    As I understand it once you have downloaded the WAIK you don't need to do it again.
