    Figured it out. I needed to delete the previous 'boot' folder created on C:\ from the 4118 rescue disc creation.

    One easy way is to add some entries to Paragon explauncher.ini.

    If you fire that up as your shell via winpeshl.ini - you can then select from there.

    You need to make sure you don't exit your shell, so make sure you use "hide" and not "switch".

    e.g.

    Name_7=Partition Wizard
    Hint_7=
    Execute_7="X:\Program Files\PW\PWIZ.exe"
    After_execute_7=Hide
    Iconpath_7=epl_launch.png
    Button_fon_7=but_pr.bmp
    Label_fon_7=b2.bmp

    Got it working now .... yay!

    The registry problem, after everything, turned out to be a typo ... duh!

    I was loading the hive to PE-SYS and the .reg files were trying to merge to PE_SYS, so after fixing my load command, the merge was applied successfully.

    Having copied the appropriate .sys files from my system32 folder (although I noticed the sysWOW64 folder had copies as well), the app still was complaining about the device driver not being available. A little search on google informed me that the sysWOW64 folder had the 32-bit version of the drivers and the system32 folder had the 64-bit ones ... yep, that made sense to me.. NOT!

    So I copied over the files from the sysWOW64 folder and it is now working!

    My next step is to create a simple little gui with 3 buttons - Paragon Backup & Recovery, Easeus Partition Manager, and command window.

    Thanks so much for your help!

    This is all good stuff. You guts are real experts. One day I have to put more programs on my WinPE stick that I made with Macrium (which btw was done very fast). The program I would really like to put on it is EasyBCD.

    So I made a new WinPE disc (4258), popped it in and it loads up fine. I didn't add any extra drivers, but when it was loading it asked if I wanted to add them for my ethernet card and the network controller. I let it scan and it found both and loaded both, then initialized the network. When I tried to browse the network for backup files (as a test, all my backups are local), it didn't discover the other machines on my LAN. So I'm wondering about that.

    Also, my HP machine has one of those 100MB boot partitions. On advice I've read here, whenever I image my C:\ drive I also include the boot partition as well (I also have made a separate image of it, just in case). But I see in some recent posts that it's possible to make the C:\ drive bootable instead. Is this preferable, or am I OK as long as I remember to image both the boot and C:\ partitions together?

    The 100Mb partition doesn't change unless to add something to the boot menu but it's no great problem to include it as it only takes seconds and you can save the backup definition so you don't even have to remember to include it.

    As Keith says, you need to image the 100MB partition only once if it does not change - e,g, thru a double boot that you add later.

    But I prefer to move the bootmgr to C:. Then I only have to deal with one partition. That 100MB partition can be a bit of a pain, especially when you want to move the image(s) to an SSD - because of the alignment considerations.

    You will have a job doing that.

    Unfortunately, Mahmoud made the huge mistake of writing easybcd in net 2.

    It requires net bloatwork to run - that is enormous.

    It's not so bad as some - at least it only uses windows forms and net frame 2.

    I have got it going with a cut down version of net frame 2 in both 32 nad 64 bit pe - but it is not easy - and it adds a lot to the size of the wim.

    As far as I know, Mahmoud himself has not been able to do it - otherwise he would be selling it.

    I've had it with Acronis 2011 and 2012. I can't recommend it anymore to my clients. It's complete and utter garbageware. They spend too much time adding useless features instead of making the software stable and killing bugs.

    Then I searched this forum for a alternative, something other than Acronis and Norton Ghost and I found this thread.

    All I ever do is local disk backup/imaging. I'm looking at the version comparison chart on Macrium's website and it seems Macrium Reflect FREE is all I need.

    What are the major differences between v4 and v5? Which version should I get? Which version is more stable?
