I came late to this long Thread, sorry if I repeat anything said earlier, don't really want to fumble through them all!

I found Macrium Free via my network engineer grandson, really like it. I backup the 1TB PC and the 320 GB laptop to my NAS as images, both are very quick to copy. However, one thing I notice is that Windows Action Centre no longer recognises the NAS as a backup destination, but will only show DVD as such. Does not bother me, as I have a SATA external drive (no Hdd for it atm) and I know that works if attached to the PC or Laptop, have done it before. The NAS also backs up, stores and streams music, photo and videos - is that why Action Centre does not "see" the NAS?

Win7 built-on backup doesn't work over the network on HOME PREMIUM. You do need at least PROFESSIONAL. You can restore over network though (if correct network drivers have been loaded in winpe).

I may be very wrong here, but I believe that is Windows Home Premium will not back up to a Network device. Professional and Ultimate will.

Hi Bertison. I guess the reason for that is that you are using Windows 7 Home Premium. Network destinations are not supported for Windows Backup on that version. As you discovered it is fine for Macrium.

    I've been beaten to it.
