    @whs,

    What was wrong with Aomei on your transformer?

    (I don't really know what a transformer is - I was under the impression it is a tabbok or netlet or some other daft name, which runs android - that is wrong, obviously).

    It might be a botched install, but if there is something about the "transformer" it doesn't like, there is a log file. It is in Aomei Backupper\log folder.

    If you post the log file up , they may be able to see what it is and fix it.

    But what if my OS is dead.
    Then you use the recovery media you created on dvd/flash. Those boot menu / pre-os things are for convenience. Neither of them replace the need for external media, just in case

    In the case of MR, it will still work since, if you select it during boot, it will boot before the OS and works independently of the OS. It's only when the drive itself is dead that it won't work. Then you fall back to a disk or stick. I suspect it's the same for AOMEI.
    Not really, they both depend on windows boot process working. Sometimes that is the very reason you need to restore.

    With MR on my machine, the menu to chose between booting into Win 7 or Win PE appears immediately after the UEFI and the BIOS from my HBA card have finished booting but before Win 7 itself starts to boot. It hangs for three seconds, then, if nothing is selected, Win 7 starts to boot.

    I use your RE64 program to create an ISO that has both Macrium and AOMEI in the one PE. It works very well.

    Thanks. Glad you like it. Glad somebody is using it.:)

    I put a couple of extra things in there. Is it clear what they are all for ? The NT6Repair what I made myself, since nobody else has.

    Yes, the menu is the windows boot menu. It depends on mbr executable code, partition table, bootsector code, bootmgr, bcd, back to bootmgr again - then you get the menu. After you make a selection, bootmgr tries to find and start the os loader. If you are using EFI, it is the same except it goes firmware boot manager >windows bootmgr, bcd, back to bootmgr, windows boot menu,etc.

    That is windows boot process which can often get borked.

    Curious. It's the same process if using something other than Windows, such as Linux.

    Most of them. Not the NT6Repair though.

    I'll have to try that. Thanks LF. I assume it will show up in the BIOS boot selection or does it show up automatically.
