Avast is avastly better than AVG, IMO. Have put it on over 100 machines w/o a single issue or virus.

Hear lots of reports of AVG problems.

Check the Event Viewer for repeat errors: type Event Viewer in start box, expand Custom for Admin view

Then I would follow Brink's advice to do a Repair Install

It saves all programs, files and settings in place while reinstalling the OS. You only need to reactivate afterwards at Computer>Properties.

At least check system files for any corruption by opening a Command Line and running sfc /scannow

i already did another custom install and it still does it so i don't think a repair install will work...heres the other story which could be the problem...a couple of months i was playing a computer game...the power went out and my computer shut down...when i went to restart my computer after it posts for the first screen i get a message that flashes for a split second saying "detecting array"...this msg never flashed before the power outage so i think it screwed with my hardd rive since i have no array setup in my computer and raid is disabled...i also tried clearing the CMOS but that did not work...could it be my hard drive got messed up from the power outage which is causing system restore to screw up?...thats the only other problem with my computer.

Very possible. Run diagnostics from your hard drive maker. WD has Data Lifeguard, Seagate has Seatools, etc. Then run chkdsk.

Are you using the correct SATA controller driver?

Burn the DOS Seatools to CD, boot and full test then zero, attempt Win7 install: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...00dd04090aRCRD

If the tested and zeroed drive still will not load files, then find your SATA driver to add to installer: google mobo + sata driver.

okay hears what ive tried doing before download the seatools...ive tried moving the system protection slider that tells u the maximum memory system restore uses and i moved the slider all the way to the right...which means i put it to 100% which is all 238.22GB just to see if it would make a difference...I created a restore point shut off my computer and started it back up and the restore point was still their...the only problem with this is that the size of the restore points are to big and would fill up my harddrive to fast...but by default when it is at 4% (the slider) which uses 9.32GB of my hard drive it removes the system restore points...i don't understand what the difference is...any thoughts?
