Backup fails with error 0x8007007B

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and for the past week or so my system has
been getting this error 0x8007007B and quitting when doing a daily backup. Today it
looked as if it was going to finish with no error. It got all the way to 70 something %
done and then it got this error 0x8007007B and said it could not complete and to try
again. I only have C: listed once - Local Disk (C: (System) Protection On.

I have searched and searched and cannot find a solution to this backup error.
I even deleted the backup set that it was using so it would create a new one and it
still gets this error and quits.
Does anyone have a solution to this? I would like to be backing up my HD as I have a 1TB USB drive just for this purpose.

I didn't have the exact same error, but since you've already deleted your previous backup set you could try this tutorial to reset your backup to default and start over,
Backup User and System Files - Reset to Default Configuration
I don't know if this will solve it or not but if look around here there seems to be several different backup problems that I've noticed but not exactly the same one I had. I hope this helps, if not I'm sure a more qualified person will be along soon. D.:)

Thanks! I downloaded the registry thing and merged it.
I rebooted and deleted the old backup folder and image on my USB drive.
It is doing a backup now.
I will let you know if it worked.

Well, after running for a very long time and looking like it was going to finish,
it ends with the exact same error 0x8007007B.

Type SystemPropertiesProtection.exe in start search.

Make sure there is only one C drive listed.

If more than one , make sure only the C drive with the windows logo is ticked.

Thanks, but this showed only one C: drive as I mentioned in my original post.
My USB drive where I backup to shows this:
F:\WindowsImageBackup\My_PC\
3 folders and 1 file
Folder - 2009-12-14 214006
Folder - Catalog
Folder - SPPMetadataCache
a file - MediaId

I had 3 drives listed and unplugged 1 of them to see if there was a 2nd C drive
listed, but there was not. Only one C: drive and there is no check boxes beside
any of them. There is a column on the right that says Protection. And under it
the C: drive is the only one with yes listed.

I search and this was occuring on Vista systems. It appears the only answer was
the double listing of the C drive and I do not have that issue.
Is there no answer for this error on Windows 7 Home Premium X64?

That is the answer? To download another vendor's free software?
I seen that being offered as a solution to this problem when I was searching for a fix.

The (1st one) Macrium does not provide incremental and differential back-up capability,
which I consider very important. The reviews on this product were not all that impressive either.

The 2nd one Paragon free edition is about the same as the 1st.

The problem may be that they are free, and if I were going to pay to get another
vendor's software, I would go for Acronis True Image Home 2010 available for $49.95.
However, I feel that I should not have to spend more money on this problem.

I consider regular backing up one's data to be a very, very important task and up until a short while ago,
my Windows 7 64 bit OS was doing that.

How about fixing the MS Windows 7 backup program? I am not using an RC
version of Windows 7, this is a purchased version and I would hope MS would
support it.

Windows 7 is advertised as having the capability of backing up data on a scheduled basis and I believe it should do so.

I am not trying to be rude or anything, but I really like Windows 7 and I believe
Microsoft should fix this problem. I will continue searching for and trying to fix this
thing myself, but judging by the amount of solutions found so far, I doubt I will be able to.
I thought maybe my C: drive was too fragmented as I had not defragmented it since it was installed, but even that did not help.
