Not able to Windows 7 restore system image

    Hello,

1.) Recently upgraded my Dell E510 PC from XP-Vista-Win7. Trying to create a system image backup of C: drive.

    1st try.
Backed up System image of C drive to DVDs(10). Before storing the DVD's in my bank deposit box I wanted to make sure I could restore from them. So I began the restore process, when I reached the 6th DVD disk the system reported the disk had 'a Disk redudanacy error'.

    2nd try.
So I decided to create the system image again on 10 new DVDs. This time it took 11 disk. When I went to Restore them, the sytem asked for the last disk. I put in disk 11, it can't find the backup set. I tried Disk 10 with no better luck. The only think I did different was when it asked me at the end if i would like to create a disk recovery image, I said no. The DVD kept spinning after I clicked the close button to the dialog box which said you have a successful backup set. (RIGHT!!) I right clicked the DVD , closed the session and clicked eject.

    3rd try.
I decided to see if the system image from the 1st attempt would maybe work. Right , am I smoking waky weed. This time a had worse luck. It errored out on the second DVD with 'data redundancy error'.

I'm not sure why I can't get a backup to work on DVD's . By the way this was my second bundle of DVD's (Sony). I had worse luck with Memorex.

I'm not sure why something so simple doesn't work.

It is wacky to try to back up to that many DVD's. You need an external drive. Until you get one, create a primary partition on a secondary HD (or, if you must, your primary HD) to store the image. It will be autodetected there by the DVD to reimage if needed.

Thanks for the reply. My next step was to go buy an external drive, however I still like to have redundancy with a copy on DVDs. I did some research on CRC data errors. It seems like my DVD player could be dirty. i actually retried the restore again with various results. 1st attempt, disk6 was bad, 2nd attempt disk 2, 3rd attempt 5 disk. So on the first attempt disk2 was find, but failed on 2nd attempt and later worked on 3rd attempt.

I still don't have an answer why Windows 7 said I had a successful backup when I created the second system image and then on the restore could not find the backup set when I inserted the last disk.
