    System Restore fails

I have tried several system restores. Each time, I get the following error (from event viewer):

The restore point selected was damaged or deleted during the restore (Windows Update).
I have been searching my system for sr.inf but cannot find it. Where can it be hiding? (And, yes, my folder options are set to allow me to see both hidden and system files.)

Any suggestions - would really like to do a restore.

What is the sr.inf file? Its not on my system either and the only reference I can find to it in google is for XP machines?

Just tried restoring from safe mode - failed in the same way. Is there an option other than 'Reapir Install'? That sounds almost like a nuclear option...

Have a good look at the tutorial at the link below.

    Startup Repair

Have you tried this yet, I can't remember.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Are you trying to restore to just one point in time, or does it do this for all restore points you have?

Suggestion above me SFC /SCANNOW is a good one.

Startup repair by inserting Win 7 disk.

Open elevated Command Prompt and paste this command in: vssadmin list shadows - that will show you the restore points (shadows). Maybe there are none.

Another point: do you have Norton running? If yes, see this: http://www.realgeek.com/forums/syste...ty-474180.html
