    Backup and Restore non-functional

    Hi Everyone,

    I'm having the same issue as the person here:
    https://www.sevenforums.com/performan...t-working.html

    except that I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 Professional. I've opened the logs for Backup and Restore and got the following diagnostic info:

    Code:
    BODY{font:x-small 'Verdana';margin-right:1.5em} .c{cursor:hand} .b{color:red;font-family:'Courier New';font-weight:bold;text-decoration:none} .e{margin-left:1em;text-indent:-1em;margin-right:1em} .k{margin-left:1em;text-indent:-1em;margin-right:1em} .t{color:#990000} .xt{color:#990099} .ns{color:red} .dt{color:green} .m{color:blue} .tx{font-weight:bold} .db{text-indent:0px;margin-left:1em;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;padding-left:.3em;border-left:1px solid #CCCCCC;font:small Courier} .di{font:small Courier} .d{color:blue} .pi{color:blue} .cb{text-indent:0px;margin-left:1em;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;padding-left:.3em;font:small Courier;color:#888888} .ci{font:small Courier;color:#888888} PRE{margin:0px;display:inline} - <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">

        <Component />

        <SubComponent />

        <FileLine>10</FileLine>

       </DebugData>

       </Event>
    That repeats (except the GUID, File Line, and System Time change) for each time I've clicked the "Backup Now" button. Seems like the diagnostic info is a bit lacking!

    I've reset the registry keys (as the prior article states) twice with no effect. It is extremely important that I get this working. I upgraded to Windows 7 specifically to utilize the shadow backup capability. This is a week-old install of that OS, and I'm very disappointed that it is already failing. Especially since I can't backup! Ugh...

    Thanks in advance,

    Welcome!

    Was the backup not working from the start, or did this problem arise after you installed sometime?

    There have always been problems with Backup/Restore in Vista, and now in Win7. I think they never got that 100% to work. Plus there are certain programs that seem to get into the way of the restore (e.g. Norton). That's why I was always using OEM products. First Ghost and Paragon, but both are quite complex. Now I use free Macrium which works really very well.

    Re: When it began, it did at one time work, at least it appeared to do so... I attempted to perform an overnight backup after I installed, but after 48 hours the progress bar was stuck at about 10 percent. It has never fully performed the backup. I looked at the disk usage and it was actually about 10% of my C: drive.

    The amount of time I have sprent researching this and attempting to fix it, along with the potential for data loss should my disk fails is frustrating. Why does Microsoft advertise a feature that is non-functional?

    I guess I'll go third party...
