    System Restore will not Work.

System Restore is active but when I want to reset it to an earlier date it fails to load. I lost my computer management link from the computer link. With help from a board member, I was able to at least get it to load from a desktop icon.

I even booted into the safe mode with no connections & it still failed. I am using Norton IS 2010. I uninstalled Norton Utilities & have RegCure on the hard drive but no active. Is this the problem?

System Restore General Troubleshooting to Fix Issues

Hi again Pat. hope this helps.

As suggested by me and the another poster on your other thread, you really should uninstall your Anti Virus and install Microsoft Security Essentials. That A/V seems to be the cause of problems.

I dont wanna sway you one way or the other but after I got rid of REGCURE, many of my problems went away. Had to do a fresh install due to some of the damage I did with that program.

On this fine site, once by Richc46 as well, I was told to try CCleaner, and pretty much dropped REGCURE immediately, and have not looked back since. First off it is free, second, many people may agree that it is safer.

Here's a link. May not be source of your problems and won't be a cure for this symptom but it is a good alternative, especially when your re-subscription day comes.

    Hello CMSgt84.

Here in an excellent option to create System Restore points, you can even add an icon to the desktop or the taskbar if you like; have a look at the tutorial at the link below.

I use CCleaner every night before I shut down. I have only used Reg Cure once & it does not run at startup. I will use my revo uninstaller to remove it.

Do you never use a reg cleaner? I know CCleaner has that option but I couldn't see how to restore it from a previous sweep.

Better not to use reg cleaners. No need to use Ccleaner every night. Too much of a good thing...

    Use CCleaner.

I use it daily and alsow the registry cleaner portion thereof.

I have never, and I repeat, never had a problem caused by CCleaner.

For the interested, CCleaner even has received the Win 7 Logo.

Once every couple of weeks is probably sufficient...

    CommonTater,

I agree with you for the normal user. Due to the amount of testing that I do, then I run CCleaner frequently. However, as yo stated, for the normal user, once every two weeks will suffice.

Pat, Windows 7 handling of the registry is quite a bit different than XP's and even Vista's. The registry needs very little if any maintenance. This OS is much more efficient than XP's or Vista's. Unless you have done a lot of installing/uninstalling, I wouldn't worry about cleaning the registry.

And thank you for your service.
