    missing recovery cd?

I just bought a Hp 6310y from best buy about a month ago, I had some problems that geek squad had to fix by sending it back to hp. The guy told me the computer was ready to be picked up but i needed to bring the restore disk. My question is, did it come with one b/c i do not throw anything away ever but i can't find the disk. I even did a factory restore before i knew what he problem was and i did not need a cd to do it. Am i crazy for thinking they do not include a cd nowadays,

Typically the HP's have a recovery partition that you can use to restore it to factory conditions.

If you want the actual restore disks, you typically have to make them yourself. In the HP program menu, you will see something like "Create recovery disks". It will then tell you that you need x# of blank DVD's and it will then burn them.

You've been living under a rock? HP and others stopped giving out restore/ recovery cds way way back. You need to create a recovery disk set using the Recovery Manager. Heres a tutorial.

I have run into problem with HP about creating Recovery disc ...for my 2 HP laptops
Unlike most brands ...HP ONLY give you 30 or 60 days .. with UNWRITTEN DOC ... after that dead-line ...you have to cough up $30.00 "Back last year" to buy it from them ..."SUCKER" ..
"FORTUNATELY i 'd be able to exchange them for Lovely sony laptops ..thanx HP."

Meanwhile i can make RC disc any time i want from my sony and others pcs at home ..
And that's why we will NO Longer buying anything from HP ...ever ..ever...

So..Go ahead do it now ...before HP sucks U out ....

    Good luck.

I guess i have been living under a rock, sorry. The problem is now i am screwed because the very problem that they needed to do warranty work on was a faulty hdd. So i could never make a system restore from the hdd since it was bad. They sent it to hp who repaired it and now they sent it back without the repair partition.
They got me twice. My parents have a 6320y and i have a 6310y. Do you think i can make a recovery disk from theirs to use on mine? Long shot

Normally, HP recovery disks will work on another computer only if it is an identical model. But no sweat, you can order recovery disks from HP, i think they cost $10-20. See the site below.

Order Recovery Discs for Windows 7, Vista, or XP HP Pavilion zt1000-IC Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Another option you have is that if you ever need to reinstall, you can do it from a generic win7 disk (you can download one from the web) and then activate using the COA sticker key. Thats the one on the rainbow sticker at the back of your machine.

The System Repair Disk loads the Windows Recovery Environment, which contains the recovery tools to repair/recover your unbootable Windows system. It does NOT install windows or recover your computer to the factory default state.
