Place your Windows 7 installation DVD into the DVD drive, while still in Windows 7 (Step 1), and click on the Run setup.exe option in the AutoPlay window from within the currently installed Windows 7.

OK, and this disc I have is from October 22, so it's OK to use it even though many many Windows Updates have been installed since then?

It will update after the installation if not during. It will also check before to make sure you have what is needed to do the installation.

OK, I'll go give it a try. Is this going to take as long as a typical upgrade install (several hrs in my experience)?

My last one took about 30 mins.

Even my clean install only took 30 to 45 mins. then updates and a driver or two.

Not sure why yours takes several hours.

Well, the time that happened to me was on my primary system, and my primary system has a good 2TB of data on it. The laptop I am working on now has much less.

OK, I'm about to get this process started. I'll post back as soon as I know something, or if I have more questions in the meantime!

Before I do this, is it true that I may lose some drivers during all this? And if so, is there a way I can enumerate a list of drivers so I'll know if anything is missing?
